๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ: The Shippers, by Katherine Center

The Shippers
What an absolute joy to attend a book signing for @katherinecenter ! This author is the absolute bomb .com! We gained so much insight into her writing process. For starters, we found out that she has written most of her novels in Galveston (a local author๐ŸŽ‰), which is also the embarkation port in her latest story. Secondly, her dedication to thorough research - something not always common in the Romcom genre - is likely why I connect so well with her work. I've tried reading other authors in this space, but I've often struggled to suspend my disbelief... enter ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ฉ๐’๐’…๐’š๐’ˆ๐’–๐’‚๐’“๐’… and I was all in! And this latest book was just as engaging. We also discovered that miscommunication is a recurring theme in her stories, and while she playfully acknowledges that it can sometimes get slightly exasperating, I can see why she keeps it in her toolbox. It’s a fantastic way to drive the plot and build anticipation!

Now that I've gushed about what a delight Ms. Center is as a human, let's talk about this book! The characters she created are such a joy; I was genuinely invested in the outcome for the whole cast of quirky misfits. The premise was fantastic (which is surprising coming from a historical fiction enthusiast like me) - it's a childhood friends-to-lovers story and I was all in!!! And the setting? A cruise ship! I was thrilled to discover that the author shares my obsession with The Love Boat!

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the fabulous
@pattimurin who narrated this audiobook - wowza! What a talent! And Lori who owns @then_and_now_bookshop had the foresight to book the @thegrand1894operahouse venue
...just amazing!!! The whole experience was sublime...

So, all this to say, Katherine Center has definitely gained a new fan in me! She was an absolute delight and I whole-heartedly recommend her books! If she’s ever in your area, make sure to stop by and say hello! She's as charming as can be!

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ: The Bodyguard, by Katherine Center

The Bodyguard
I'll be the first to admit, I was not a fan of romcoms, UNTIL NOW!!! Apparently, I just hadn't read the right one! What a fun story๐Ÿค—! I think I might just add more of these light-hearted reads to my repertoire!!!

Katherine Center really lured me in from the first page! There was so much to love about this book - the characters were well-fleshed-out, the plot was engaging, and the evolving relationship kept my interest throughout! I appreciated that it wasn't insta-love, cuz I just can't handle that, tbh๐Ÿ™ˆ.

Hannah is my hero - a tough cookie with a big heart! Enter Jack, and all her carefully-molded tough-gal facade goes out the window...

Truly, if you're not a fan of romcoms, give this one a try! It might just change your mind, like it did mine!

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ: The Unhoneymooners, by Christina Lauren

The Unhoneymooners ๐Ÿ–☀️My last summer post☀️๐Ÿ–!

๐Ÿ‘Okay, so I have to admit, I'm proud of me! Not only did I read all my summer TBRs, I stepped completely out of my comfort zone for most of them. To boot, not only did I get in a CoHo, but now a Christina Lauren - who even am I?!

❤I think this is my first official RomCom. Though I must admit, there's a bit of a blurred line for me with this genre... For example, I expected Big Summer to be a RomCom, but it so wasn't imho. This is much more what I expected one to be.

๐ŸคฃI did laugh out loud several times, and the writing was smooth and witty. I enjoyed the banter between the protagonists, and appreciated that there weren't any explicit scenes in the novel (though some of the vocab of choice was, ahem, colorful). Though the Mama in me would still label it for mature audiences (sorry to all the teens that follow me๐Ÿ˜œ)!

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธI loved the element of the Mexican-American family and their love for one another! It was refreshing to have Latinos represented in a modern romance.

So, once again, I can say, okay y'all, I get it! I may just have to pick up another Christina Lauren novel in the future! Many thanks to all of you who pushed me to try๐Ÿ˜˜! But a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to Alyssa @thebookishvirgo who gifted me with this book from her 1k giveaway! Yes, it's taken me THAT LONG to read๐Ÿ™ˆ!
