๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ Left Neglected, by Lisa Genova

Once again, Lisa Genova has managed to enlighten and entertain. This story discussed a condition about which little is known: left neglect. This type of brain damage is made even more captivating when told from the point of view of the head-injured individual, herself. I’m always impressed by Ms. Genova’s bravery as she tells her stories from the viewpoint of those affected by the medical condition she tackles. Still Alice was written in the same manner, and was truly one of the most gripping novels I’ve read. Although Left Neglected is written similarly, I must admit that Sarah is not nearly as endearing as Alice was. Part of the reason for my assessment is the continuous barrage of name brands that she mentions throughout the novel, her obvious pride in herself and her work, and her constant allusion to her own wealth; Sarah is just an overall more self-absorbed character.

I also struggled with the repetition in the novel. Although the recurrence of some of the material solidified the difficulty that this poor woman was experiencing, some of it seemed like the editor may have shirked his/her duties.

However, aside from those minor issues, this novel was very well-written, incredibly fascinating, and ultimately rewarding.
