I stepped into A.J. Fikry’s bookstore, and entered an exquisite tale of love lost and found, and fates intertwined in a lovely web of time. Despite Mr. Fikry’s rocky start in the novel’s intro, he becomes a most admirable character by novel’s end. There were unforeseen plot twists along the way, along with a bounty of literary references, that will lure even the most timorous readers in. Fikry’s quotes are priceless: “We are not quite novels. We are not quite short stories. In the end, we are collected works.” Beautiful, simple, profound… that is how I would summarize this novel.
