Having begun this novel with high expectations, this was a slight let-down, though not a complete disappointment. Mr. Lancaster’s 600 Hours of Edward, and its sequel Edward Adrift, were two of my favorites, so I was hoping for a similar style of writing in this novel. Unfortunately, it was completely different, and not nearly as satisfying. All in all, it read like a long-winded narrative about a group of unhappy people, many of whom believed the grass was greener elsewhere. The slew of characters was a bit overwhelming, and the whole Norby/Samuel (pick a name already) storyline was not only confusing, but unnecessary.
I enjoyed being immersed in the small-town feel of Grandview, and liked the fact that there was always something brewing in this small Montana town. It wasn’t a complete waste of time, as Lancaster still has a way of grabbing the reader’s attention, even with his less memorable books. I’m most excited, that while purchasing this book at a deep discount, I found that he has written his third installment of the Edward series. Now that’s something to celebrate (much more so than Jamboree in Grandview)!
