This memoir is as heartbreaking as it is redemptive, and Ishmael Beah takes us on his journey of incredible loss, end of innocence, and ultimate renewal of self. It reminds us of our many blessings in this great nation, and allows us to realize what it is to be free, while also understanding the plight of many youngsters around the world.
