The Storyteller's Secret

Trail of Broken Wings, by Sejal Badani was so exquisite, that it spurred me to pick The Storyteller's Secret as my personal Book Club pick. Ms. Badani has once again succeeded in creating another gem of a novel. I learned so much about the Indian culture, and I truly appreciated the perspective it gave me with regard to the way women and those of differing social status are treated in South Asia and the Middle East.

It was a lovely tale, with such endearing characters (I especially loved Ravi, the most faithful servant and friend). However, I fear I may have had too high of expectations for this novel, stemming from the pure enjoyment of the author's 2015 debut. And although the journey was fascinating, and certainly worth readers' time, I found it a bit more predictable and improbable than her first. Having said that, you should expect a solid 4-star novel with depth, relevance, and a little girl power thrown in as an added bonus!
