A Girl Called Samson
Surely, this novel is nothing short of a momentous accomplishment for this best-selling author. If I didn't know better, I would think Amy Harmon lived a previous life as Deborah Samson, herself. The language is so perfectly authentic of the time period; the setting is so completely captivating. Never once during the time I read it did I not feel completely immersed in the Revolutionary War era right along with Ms. Samson.

Deborah Samson is every woman, a devoted servant, a selfless individual, and an uncompromising patriot. As Robert Shurtliff, none of these qualities are diminished, but instead, enhanced. Only her unwavering fortitude is a quality that shines through in her new role. The most amazing thing was to discover that Deborah Samson was a real individual in history, and Amy has succeeded in bringing her to life once again for her readers. I was enchanted by the epistolary portions of this novel as it allows readers into the depths of "Rob's" conscious thoughts. I was mesmerized by the detailed history and, in turn, by Harmon's meticulous research.

This story broke me, as do all of Harmon's works, but in the most beautiful way. I can always count on her stories to uplift, inspire, and instill in me a newfound hope. I laugh, I sob, I am renewed.

Quite honestly, Harmon, herself, is every woman. She bares her soul, not only in her writing, but with her fans. We learn from her novels that she is an exquisite writer and we learn from her posts that she is a doting mother, a concerned citizen, and more importantly, a humble human being. She shares it all with us, and we feel that much more connected to her writing in this way. Thank you, Amy, for sharing your humanity and your talent.

๐Ÿ’ฏYou MUST pick up this incredible novel. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, and you will come away from it better than you were before.

Many thanks to Amy Harmon and Lake Union for this gifted r
