๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ The Power of One, by Bryce Courtenay

This is a tough one to rate so low simply because of the rave reviews! Not only did it get astonishingly high reviews on both Goodreads and Amazon, but the majority of my Book Club (sans 2 of us) enjoyed it tremendously. So, I wonder what it was that I missed... I felt unsatisfied, as though everything just worked out way to easily for the main character. There were some setbacks for him, but there was never any true struggle endured (aside from the tragedy involving his beloved "Grandpa Chook").  Truth be told, for me, it was scrawny plot and Courtenay failed to hold my attention. Honestly, I held out hope that the end would prove this lengthy book a worthwhile read, but I was sorely disappointed. It was a sweet story, but harbored too long on minute details. Apparently, I am in the minority in my views on this one:-)!
