This was one of the few unpredictable mysteries I've read in recent years. It had quite a twist, and Pickard created enough suspicion around several of the characters to keep me guessing. She was able to sprinkle several clues throughout the book, while still being able to direct my attention away from the actual criminal. Kudos for that aspect of her novel. However, her style was a bit understated for a mystery, so it wasn't as thrilling as it could've been. I would've enjoyed a bit more intrigue.
