๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ A Sudden Light, by Garth Stein

I must admit that my critique may be unfair to the author, because it is partly based on the fact that I had very high expectations prior to reading the novel. The Art of Racing in the Rain was such a joy to read, that I must admit, I expected this novel to be equally as impressive.

Although there were some aspects of the story that I really enjoyed, such as the overriding theme of conservationism, and the clear message that all things are connected, there were also things that were less than stellar. The constant allusion to an incestuous relationship was unnecessary to the story, and was very disquieting. Some parts of the novel seemed a bit disjointed and non-sequential. In addition, the transitions of the narrator from young boy to adult male seemed to be written in the same tone, which led to some confusion during the story.  Combine that with the fact that there were several predictable events, and I finished the novel feeling a bit apathetic.
