πŸ‘ΆπŸ‘ΆπŸ‘ΆπŸ‘ΆπŸ‘Ά News of the World, by Paulette Jiles

It was such a delight to read a period novel set in post-Civil War Texas, a time when there was complete lawlessness, before Texas was forced back into the Union. I learned quite a bit about Indian captives, who were quite often children that were taken not only for retribution, but for replenishment of the tribe’s own losses in battle.

Captain Kidd and Johanna were such endearing characters, and their relationship, though quite unique, was so very special. I found myself rooting for this dear man, and feeling the sweet girl’s pain and confusion.

Many readers complained about the punctuation and lack of quotation marks, but I cannot speak to that, as I listened to this book on Audible. Grover Gardner did a tremendous job with his narration, and kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
