๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ‘ถ Our Souls at Night, by Kent Haruf

Moving, tender, heartbreaking… a book with an uncomplicated plot, and a poignant message... This posthumous novel by Kent Haruf explores loneliness, along with the ascetic barriers unfairly imposed by society in certain life situations. These two beautiful, vulnerable human beings offer us a glimpse into the realities of aging, and then decide on a rather unconventional method of dealing with their solitary situations. Suddenly, these individuals can envision a new beginning together, where once there was only a stark, dismal end.

I loved the simplicity with which the author speaks to his audience, mostly through heartfelt dialogue between the characters. Even his decision to eliminate quotation marks to distinguish dialogue, adds to the austere, pure quality of his work.

What an eloquent gift Mr. Haruf has left us.
