I am absolutely stunned that this story is not incorporated right alongside the discovery of Radium by the Curies in students' history books. This a long read, for certain, as it was an interminably extended period of time in which this gruesome tragedy took place. However, it's an important read that allows readers to understand the extent to which companies would (and sometimes still do) hide known dangers from their workers all in the name of the mighty dollar. It is because of these courageous, doomed women that many workplace safety regulations were established, paving the path for modern labor laws. In addition, nuclear research safeguards were implemented. The images Kate Moore depicts are incredibly disturbing and tragic, which, in my humble opinion, make it all the more necessary to learn about the great sacrifice these brave women made for our benefit.
