I am always in awe of authors who tell a story of strong, resolute women in an awe-inspiring way, rather than from a place of anger. I'm not sure if that even makes sense, but there are just so many stories about remarkable women that need to be told, and when those are told in an enlightening and edifying manner, they lift women up that much more.
This was one such story, and let's just say that Christina Baker Kline killed it. She explored the oppression of women in 19th century Australia, recounting their struggles and triumphs, and shared a historical fiction story of dreadful misfortune and undying optimism.
I never knew the history of Australia, and I am so glad I was given this gorgeous signed novel to then share my thoughts with all of you.
Many thanks to @customhousebooks for making these signed first editions available!
