π·In this new black crime fiction novel, π¨ππ π»πππ ππ πΊπππππ, author Patricia Raybon takes readers on a mysterious adventure with Annalee Spain ("the colored professor") to figure out who murdered her estranged father. Contending with the challenge of both race and class, Annalee faces obstacles from beginning to end.
ππ»One of my favorite parts of the novel was the inclusion of the Sherlock Holmes quotes at the beginning of each chapterπ΅♂️; this was a fun little addition. I also appreciated the historical details of the early 20th century with regard to racial tensions and the movement of the KKK. To boot, the setting was also well depicted.
✝️For those of you that enjoy a novel laden with Bible quotes and spirituality, this is your ticket. With Annalee being a theologian and meeting up with a Pastor to solve the crime, this novel leans heavily on scripture. Her story is filled with prayer and invocation as Annalee struggles with her faith throughout her journey.
