I had been wanting to read Alka Joshi for some time. Her work is so admired, that I had to see what all the fuss was about! And now I understand that @thealkajoshi is an artist in her own right - using her words to paint her immersive story.

I will admit that there are controversial practices in this novel that took me by surprise, but the story is ultimately one of perseverance in the face of fear. I felt immersed in the culture and I appreciated learning some of the intricacies of Indian customs. Lakshmi, the Henna artist, took me on a journey of India that engaged all my senses!
